Once again Apple has released a new iPhone for your hands to play with, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. With an improved camera, and a few new features, will it make you buy or skip this year’s model. Here are some top features for you to consider.
Visually, they are offering new colors, matte black and jet black. The matte black will be the regular black but with a nice matte finish, while the jet black is more of a glossy glass front and back. Be warned, Apple states on their website “its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.” This means it is subject to get scratches easily, bummer. With new colors, we also get a new screen. Both will keep the same screen resolution but a wider color gamut so that mean a 25% brighter screen with vivid colors – which is never a bad thing.
A big complaint is the loss of the headphone jack, but Apple decided to go with a whole new approach and focused more on the speakers. A speaker on the top and bottom for a surround sound that is 2x louder than the previous models. And with no headphone jack Apple gives you new wireless headphones, or Airpods as they call them. You can make calls and listen to music with up to 24 hours of battery life, that’s assuming you won’t lose them.
One of the features that has been long awaited is a waterproof iPhone. Both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are IP67 water and dust resistant. So you don’t have to worry if it gets wet, the phone will be fine, hopefully. But waterproof doesn’t mean water resistant so if you’re one that likes taking pictures undersea I would still get water resistant case.
Under the hood the both models have the new A10 fusion processor that are now quad core. Two of those cores are high performance, which you should get a faster phone, and the other two are high efficiency so it would give you better battery life. A combo of 4 cores means you’ll be getting a much faster phone and 2 more hours on the 7 and 1 more and the 7 plus. And that is always welcomed.
And finally the top feature most of us care about is the camera. It’s still a 12mp camera but now has a 6 element lense, optical image stabilization, a new f1.8 aperture and a Quad LED 2 tone flash. This means a much better performance in all situations especially in low light. But the big change comes in the 7 Plus. It has the same camera as the 7 but has a second camera with a zoomed in focal length. With that you get 2x optical zoom, and won’t loose the image quality.
To some a new camera and a color change don’t make much difference from the previous models – it doesn’t to me. But I think Apple is holding off for next year on their 10th anniversary to release something amazing! As far as this year goes, are these features enough for you to upgrade to the new phone or will you hold out till next year?ss
